The Best Dumbbell Weight for Women’s Arms
Women’s Weightlifting Misconception
Fear of becoming bulky is a very common concern for women that often results in them not participating in weight training or going very light if they do. Women who have this fear often spend most of their time on cardio machines or using and cable pulleys. Not knowing what the best dumbbell weight for women’s arms should be causes a lot of women to avoid dumbbells and opt for other training methods. If dumbbells are used, it is often for shoulder or arm workouts with very light weight and high reps.
Women should not be afraid of getting bulky like men because their testosterone levels are much lower. Even in the most muscular conditions female athletes, their percentage of muscle mass is about half of what the average is for males. Becoming bulky is not something that should be a concern for women. It is just fine for women to lift heavier weight to help tone muscles and increase their metabolic rate.
How to Choose the Best Dumbbell Weight for Women’s Arms
Knowing how much weight you should lift is no different for women than it is for men. If you are using dumbbells and the rep range you chose is 10-12, you should not be able to do 16-17 reps. If you can do that many reps you aren’t using enough weight to challenge yourself. A good way to determine how much weight you should be doing is to choose a rep range separated by 3 numbers such as 8-10. If you can only do 8 reps, you need to go down in weight. If you are able to do 9 reps, keep the same weight. On the third set, if you can do 10 reps, go up in weight. This scale can be used across the board for all exercises and will ensure that you are pushing yourself at all times.
What Dumbbell Exercises Should Women Do?
The exercises you should be doing largely depend on what your goals are. For women who are wanting to tone their muscles and burn fat, the exercises that recruit the most muscles are going to be the best ones to do. Some examples would be, shoulder press, bent over rows, goblet squats, or bench press. By doing these exercises, you will be forced to use more muscles therefore burning more calories. You want to make sure you are lifting enough weight also when doing these exercises to get the full benefit.

GG&G – Great Weight Range for Women
The best dumbbell weights for women’s arms are adjustable dumbbells that have enough weight for an intense workout but not too much where the weight will not be used. 52.5 lbs is the maximum amount of weight a women will probably need, especially since this is just one dumbbell.
These dumbbells are great for working out at home because they are compact and don’t take up a lot of space like a rack with multiple dumbbells. If you bought a rack with dumbbells up to 50 lbs you could possibly be paying close to $1,000 and it would take up too much space at home.
